Experienced Leaders
CRI executives and staff are committed to providing our clients with the finest corporate security and investigative services available. Corporate Risk International's global operation is comprised of exceptionally well-trained individuals who bring to the firm extensive experience in business intelligence gathering, corporate security, all facets of hostage negotiation, and international law enforcement.
Sean is the founder of Corporate Risk International and closely manages CRI's crisis management and response programs. Sean served 24 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, retiring as head of the FBI's Office of International Affairs, which manages all of the FBI's international investigations. He was also head of the FBI's Organized Crime and Drug program for more than six years with responsibility for over 1,700 FBI Special Agents.
Jim has been with CRI since 1993 and is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of a global operation which makes use of an international network of more than 250 highly experienced security partners. Jim specifically manages CRI's due diligence division, leading investigative teams in the handling of complex investigations and gathering intelligence throughout the world on behalf of corporate and government clientele. Prior to joining CRI, Jim served as an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Dick is in charge of CRI's crisis management planning and response services, including kidnap/extortion response, executive protection, advisory seminars, and development of special crisis management plans and executive seminars. Since joining CRI in 1998, Dick has responded to more than 225 kidnapping or extortion incidents. Dick retired from the FBI in 1998 after spending more than 28 years of distinguished service in a variety of investigative and executive positions. After several years in the field as an investigative agent handling kidnapping, extortion, bank robbery and terrorism cases, Dick finished his career as a Section Chief responsible for domestic and international training for the FBI and local/international police at Quantico, VA. He also was head of the FBI agent applicant and background section at FBI headquarters and further served as assistant head of the FBI's office in Atlanta, GA.
Tom joined CRI in January 2005 after serving eight years with the FBI as a Special Agent in NYC and Washington, DC. He served as Supervisory SA, Domestic Counterterrorism Operations Unit, FBI Headquarters, where Tom was responsible for domestic counterterrorism investigations throughout the US. Tom also worked in the FBI's New York City office managing and investigating health care fraud, white collar crime and organized crime. Tom is presently responsible for managing CRI's special projects and investigations division and also serves as a key member of CRI's crisis response division. Prior to his tenure in the Bureau, Tom served as an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force.
Michael Varnum is Senior Vice President and head of the Fraud, Anti-Corruption and Corporate Transparency practice for Corporate Risk International. Michael was a Senior Executive Service member in the FBI becoming an internationally recognized as a leader in law enforcement and the intelligence community. His career work encompassed numerous executive, senior level and operational assignments concentrated on corruption, white collar crime, counter terrorism and human resource issues. Prior assignments with the FBI included Special Agent-in-Charge, Norfolk, VA, Deputy Assistant Director - Human Resources, FBI Headquarters, Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge, Philadelphia, PA, and Chief of the Public Corruption/Economic Crimes Programs, FBI Headquarters. Michael provided senior leadership for the FBI's Public Corruption Program, where he directed and guided many of the FBI's most sensitive corruption and white collar crime investigations internationally.
Mike joined CRI in 2007 and is responsible for coordinating and managing CRI operations in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. Mike brings a wealth of experience to this role from military service as well as from private industry where he was most recently Director of Security at Merrill Lynch for the EMEA territory. This role comprised corporate investigations, due diligence and vendor screening inquiries, political and security threat assessments, security of people, assets and information, international travel security, executive protection and crisis management response. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mike was security & risk manager for the Cable and Wireless subsidiary – Mercury Communications where he spent 9 years developing their risk management program. Before joining Cable & Wireless, Mike served 12 years in the Royal Air Force Police, the majority of time on counter intelligence duties overseas.
Dee is responsible for coordinating and managing CRI operations in Houston, Texas and the southwest region of the United States. He brings to CRI a wealth of experience from twenty-one years of broad based, professional management in the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Army. Dee most recently served eleven years in the FBI as a Special Agent investigating and supervising criminal, counterintelligence and counterterrorism matters. His work encompassed numerous managerial as well as operational assignments including being selected to be an operator on the elite FBI Hostage Rescue Team and then being hand-picked as a briefer for the Director of the FBI. While assigned to the Counterterrorism Division at FBI headquarters Dee provided oversight for over 250 sensitive counterterrorism investigations within the US and overseas. Following national security work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Morocco and Saudi Arabia, Dee assumed command of the FBI's Bryan/College Station (Houston Division), Texas office where he spent three years. Prior to his tenure in the FBI, Dee was a U.S. Army Ranger where he served the majority of his ten-year career within the U.S. Joint Special Operations community.
Linda has been with CRI since October 1999, and is responsible for coordinating and managing special due diligence / research projects that are carried out by CRI case managers and research analysts. She also supervises CRI's extensive database research efforts and continues to add new research methods that enhance our due diligence services. Prior to CRI, Linda worked as an editor with a national education association, conducting research into and reporting extensively on the education sector. She has also worked as an editor with an international energy industry publication, specializing in the oil and nuclear sectors. Linda holds a B.S. degree from Northwestern University and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
Renee oversees the day to day operations of CRI's due diligence projects. She manages CRI's investigative and case management team to ensure the successful completion of intelligence gathering and investigative projects, which are completed on behalf of CRI's corporate clients. Renee previously worked with Argonne National Laboratory's International Nuclear Technology Liaison Office (INTLO). In this capacity, Renee worked closely with the Department of State and other U.S. Government agencies to coordinate U.S. government policies and participation with regard to the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. These activities included reviews and reports on foreign policy issues, participation in meeting and discussions, contributing to position papers, instruction cables and recommendations on policy matters. Renee has a B.A. from the University of Rochester and a M.A. in Security Policy Studies from The George Washington University, Elliott School of International Affairs.
Brad serves as a manager in CRI's domestic and international due diligence department. Brad is a retired FBI executive with more than 28 years of law enforcement experience. At the Bureau, Brad was a headquarters and field supervisor in charge of applicant/appointee background investigations, civil rights violation inquiries, and credited with spearheading a high-profile international investigation into professional hockey pension fraud resulting in the indictment of a major Canadian sports figure. Brad's final position with the FBI was Chief of the Information Systems Security Unit.
Executive Consultants
Jules Bonavolonta is a member of CRI's Executive Management committee, and is responsible for assisting CRI management on the strategic direction of the firm. He recently retired from MBNA America Bank as a Senior Vice Chairman in charge of Administrative Services. In that capacity, he was responsible for Facility Management, Corporate Security, Transportation Services, Aviation, Health and Safety as well as, Dining and Hospitality. Prior to this, Jules served as Director of Corporate Security for Consolidated Edison of New York, and then as Director of Corporate Security, Worldwide, for Republic National Bank of New York. Jules then founded his own company, Universal Network Inc. where he counseled clients in the areas of financial fraud investigations, organized crime and narcotics matters, domestic and international asset searches as well as personal security protection. In more than six years with the U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets), he was a highly decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. Following this service, Jules built a 23 year career of exceptional service with the FBI, retiring as Chief of the Organized Crime and Narcotics Division of the FBI's New York office. Jules currently serves as a trustee on the Former Agents of the FBI Foundation Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of Directors of St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey.
Dr. John D. Glover serves as Senior Executive Consultant to Corporate Risk International. Dr. Glover recently retired as Vice President, Corporate Security from the multi-national pharmaceutical company, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (BMS), where he specialized in conducting and coordinating complex, international, anti-counterfeiting investigations and other threats targeted against the company. Prior to his employment with BMS, Dr. Glover spent more than 22 years in various investigative and administrative assignments in the FBI, ultimately rising to the position of Executive Assistant Director, one of three individuals directly reporting to the Director of the FBI. He also served as Assistant Director of the Inspections Division, where he supervised the on-site inspections and audits of FBI Headquarters and field office operations and the periodic evaluations of all FBI investigative programs.
John most recently worked at Ernst & Young as the Director of Investigative Services, reporting to the Firm's Vice-Chair and General Counsel. Prior to this, John served a distinguish career in the FBI, culminating with his serving as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Buffalo Office and remained in that position until his retirement in October of 1988. John remains active in various civic and professional organizations (FBI National Academy, NY State Chiefs of Police, and International Security Management Assn.). He was a member of the Executive Committee (Security) for the World University Games held in Buffalo in 1993. John has served on various foundation boards and is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the Erie County Law Enforcement Foundation.
Jack is a retired FBI official with more than 25 years of service. Jack was a FBI Headquarters supervisor in the Anti-terrorism Program at the time of his retirement in 1988. Jack has primary responsibility for developing, assessing and maintaining CRI's network of overseas security consultants. In addition, Jack regularly conducts security surveys, due diligence inquiries and other special projects. Jack is fluent in Spanish.
Mr. Hall has over 20 years of business, technical and project management and security and system engineering experience in the government and commercial technology industry. Mr. Hall has participated in all project phases, from concept development through field test of completed systems. Mr. Hall's demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with senior customer personnel to elicit clear business requirements and provide ongoing issue resolution combined with his ability to translate and communicate these requirements to technical staff has ensured the projects he has been involved with stay on schedule and consistently meet customer expectations. His senior business management experience has included founding and managing the operations of a technology company as well as providing business, sales and operations management as part of the executive staff of a custom Internet software development company and a venture-funded Internet software product company. This experience combined with formal engineering training has provided Mr. Hall with a broad range of decision making and problem solving skills that can be used across a wide array of technical and business applications.
